Open Letter to 41st Canadian Parliament
Today, Bad Science Watch sent an open letter to the 41st Canadian parliament to introduce ourselves. Here is the text of the letter:
Dear Members of the 41st Canadian Parliament,
Bad Science Watch is a new activist organization committed to the health and safety of Canadians through good science policy. We are writing you today to introduce ourselves and to express our concern about the tacit approval given by our government to unproven and sometimes dangerous products and ideas.
One of our long-term goals is reform of the Natural Health Products Directorate with the application of more stringent requirements of evidence for efficacy and safety. The marketing of ineffective products along with an anti-science ideology is profoundly destructive to public health, an example being a decrease in vaccination rates with a concomitant rise in outbreaks of preventable diseases such as whooping cough.
Informing policies of great importance to the health and prosperity of Canadians, science provides a largely unbiased factual base of information. Bad Science Watch will stand up for the value of science in public policy.
We believe that we have many allies in government, including elected officials who favour evidence-based policy decisions. We look forward to working with you in the application of good scientific methods for the betterment of all Canadians. Please visit our website and contact us for further discussion.
Board of Directors, Bad Science Watch
